Araliya Community Company
This amazing group of women shows how with determination and a little help, a fair trade industry can grow from a small idea.
Started in March 2004 with a small group of women with deaf and mute children, in the kindergarten run by the Sisters of the “Daughters of Providence” to provide much needed income for these women, the now incorporated company has grown to more than 80 women. Working in 8 small groups, close to their homes, each member owns a share of the company and each group elects their own board member, contributing in all the company’s decisions.
The products sold by this wonderful company not only allow these women to earn an income but provide a network for social change and group discussion and also contributes to the Deaf and Dumb School run by the Sisters.
